How it started... Originally this started as an experiment for us to try out some of our ideas and a place for our homepage. Ever since it has grown and evolved so we decided to make this a permanent part of our endeavour. This site is for sharing of ideas, skills and experiences on things we know. Currently it is on photography, film camera and digital camera, and also to showcase our photographs on the photo gallery and photo essay. There are also write-ups on home computing and how and where you can find freeware, open source software and shareware for beginners. We just added a fun page with javascript game and a freeware and shareware review sections. More are in the pipeline and will be posted on the site news when ready. So stay tuned for updates......

Camera Batteries
Digital cameras do not need films but consume battery at a rate that many digital camera users scream and say "this thing EATS Battery!" Battery is now a major consumable of digital photography and camera shops have become a speciality shop for batteries and battery chargers. Our original Camera Guide does not include the subject of battery as we were focusing on the camera itself and its functionality. With digital cameras taking over a major share of the market vs film cameras we feel that we should add a chapter on battery. wink We worked on the article for a while and finally came up with not just one chapter but a three-part article on battery -- Part 1: About Batteries, Part 2: Types of Batteries and Part 3: Batteries & Cameras. Along with that we have a minor update on Digital Zoom vs Optical Zoom of the Camera Guide so that this article is in line with current market developments. We invite everyone to take a look at these new articles and hope you will find it informative and be of some help to you. smile

Stsite moved to a dual Xeon server smile
For the last month or two our web site was plagued with server issues such as “server not available”, downtime and unresponsive web pages. sad The web hosting company and their data center was trying to trouble shoot the situation and finally they believed the Pentium 4 box was short of RAM. Adding RAM might resolve the issue but they soon found another problem i.e, the Dell server they used couldn't take any more ram than what had already been installed! wink So a second option for our web host was to suggest to any users if they were willing to volunteer to more to another server to reduce load on the present server. For the volunteers they might face some extra downtime of domain name propagation because the two servers had a different DNS cluster. After weighing the pros and cons and asking our host master some well directed questions, I decided to be the first volunteer and soon many followed. It is about 10 days now since we moved and I have not noticed any downtime during the move. I am glad that we volunteer the move because we are now on a dual Xeon 64 bit processor which functions much better than the Pentium 4 box that we were on. This is good news for our visitors too since this means better surfing experience on our web site. smile
